If you follow me on Instagram you might have caught a glimpse of this cover recently. After spending some time with the book, I wanted to share a more in-depth look at it because - get ready for something awesome - you can buy this one for less than $10! The book, of course, is Edgar Allan Poe: Complete Tales and Poems and the edition is a recent one, reprinted in 2012 and originally released in 2006. It was crafted for Barnes & Noble by Fall River Press, a division of Sterling Publishing. A few more details: clocking in at over 1,000 pages, the collection includes more than 150 of Poe's short stories and poems, as well as The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket, his only novel. The Masque of the Red Death is here, and The Raven, Tamerlane, The Tell-Tale Heart, and A Dream Within a Dream; there's also Politian, Poe's only (and incomplete) play.
Aside from a brief introduction by Dawn B. Sova, author of Edgar Allan Poe: A to Z, the book focuses entirely on Poe's work and is interrupted only by his own original notes. I'm so far from being an authority on Poe, I haven't even read him yet (yes, really!); but from the perspective of someone approaching his work with a simple, intrigued curiosity, I'm fond of this collection as a doorway into his world. It's especially nice if you want a collectible without making a huge financial commitment. That's why I was sold when I saw the price; I picked it up at my local store, but you can get it on Barnes & Noble's site for the same $7.18!
If you have a favorite work from Poe I'd love suggestions on which to start with - because the amount of things to read in here are only slightly intimidating!
